The Galaxy S21 Ultra is that the best smartphone camera immediately, because of its big primary sensor, an ultrawide camera with autofocus, and two telephoto cameras (3x and 10x) with OIS. Next year, Samsung may introduce an improved camera with the launch of the Galaxy S22 Ultra and its new zoom camera technology.

Below is where we will be collating all the leaks, rumors, and news we hear about the Samsung Galaxy S22 until its launch, likely in early 2022. We’ll be keeping track of details of the Galaxy S22 release date, price, features, and far more.
Then below that, you will find our ultimate list of what we would like to ascertain Samsung improve for its next Galaxy S flagship range.

Cut to the chase

  • When is it out? Probably early 2022, maybe January
  • What will it cost? Expect $799 / £769 / AU$1,249 and up

Samsung Galaxy S22 release date and price

  • Possibly January 2022
  • From £769/$799

The Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra were revealed in January 2021, as we mentioned above, though this was before the company’s typical timeline for its Galaxy S series launch. before 2021, the range was revealed in February and made available by March.
It’s not currently clear whether January is that the new timeline for the Galaxy S range or whether Samsung will return to its previous pattern. it is also in fact possible there’ll be a special timeline altogether for the Galaxy S22 range, especially because the Galaxy Note 21 won’t be happening this year.
In terms of price, the Galaxy S21 starts at £769 within the UK and $799 within the US. The Galaxy S21+ starts at £949 within the UK and $999 within the US and therefore the Galaxy S21 Ultra starts at £1149 within the UK and $1199 within the US. It’s likely the respective successors will keep within an identical ballpark, but it’s too early to mention for now.

Design

  • Glasstic on the standard model
  • Prominent camera housing
  • S Pen support on S22 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S22 range is probably going to share design traits because the S21 range does. there’ll little question be some changes compared to the 2021 range, but it might be that they’re smaller changes than those made between the S20 range and S21 range.
We’d expect premium handsets across the entire range, but it’s likely a minimum of the quality S22 will choose a plastic back instead of glass because the S21 did. Waterproofing is predicted on all S22 models though and USB Type-C charging.
We’d also expect a prominent camera housing on all models and a punch-hole front camera unless under-display camera technology flies this year. albeit it does though, it’s likely that might be reserved for the S22 Ultra. The S22 Ultra is additionally likely to supply S Pen support just like the S21 Ultra does, though it might be great to ascertain this reach the Plus model too.

Hardware and specs

  • Next-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets
  • At least 8GB RAM
  • No charger in the box

At the instant, it isn’t clear what the Samsung Galaxy S22 will offer in terms of hardware, though it’s likely to possess subsequent flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon processor onboard – which can probably be revealed in December – or the next-gen Exynos chipset, counting on the region.
There’s been talk Samsung is already performing on the Exynos 9855 chipset, said to be for the 2022 handsets, though little else has been revealed at this stage.
In terms of other specs, it’s likely that the S22 will offer a minimum of 8GB of RAM, like its predecessor, and are available during a base model of a minimum of 128GB of storage. The S21 range doesn’t have microSD support so we suspect it’s unlikely that the S22 range will reintroduce this, unfortunately.
It’s just about a certainty that each one of the S22 handsets is going to be 5G compatible and we’d expect the S22 to supply a minimum of a 4000mAh battery, with support for fast charging and fast wireless charging. Samsung has confirmed that the charger won’t are available in the box though – a move Apple made for its iPhone 12 series.

Display

  • 6.2-inch to 6.8-inch
  • Full HD+ on standard and Plus models likely
  • 120Hz refresh rate

The Samsung Galaxy S21 features a 6.2-inch display, the S21+ features a 6.7-inch display and therefore the S21 Ultra features a 6.8-inch display. it isn’t yet clear if Samsung will still offer three devices within the S22 range and whether it’ll stick with an equivalent sizes if it does.
We’d expect the quality S22 and therefore the S22+ to supply Full HD+ resolutions though, also as flat displays, as was the case for the S21 and S21+. The S22 Ultra meanwhile, will probably still offer a better resolution and a curved display, though that’s all speculation for now.
Support for HDR and a variable 120Hz refresh rate is predicted on all S22 models, though for now, no specifics are rumored.

Camera

  • No ToF sensor
  • 200MP sensor for S22 Ultra
  • Collaboration on the cards

There are claims Samsung is functioning on a 200-megapixel camera sensor, which could be placed into the Galaxy S22 Ultra and there are some reports suggesting Samsung and Olympus also are in talks regarding a collaboration.
Additionally, other rumors suggest Samsung is watching sensor shift technology, just like the iPhone 12 Pro Max offers, and there is been some chatter a few new periscope lens which will move the lenses freely between 3X and 10X zoom coming to the S22 Ultra.
There also are reports that the ToF sensor won’t be making a return on the Galaxy S22 either – love it didn’t on the S21 model.
